The impact of the tariff hike imposed by the United States government on Brazilian exports, with rates reaching up to 50% on some products, remains a central concern for the animal rendering sector at the beginning of 2026. Among the most affected items is beef tallow, a strategic input for the biofuels chain, whose interruption in trade flows has been felt significantly by Brazilian companies.
In this context, ABRA intensified its institutional engagement and met with Minister Grace Tanno of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE). The objective was to add data and technical elements to the negotiations led by Itamaraty aimed at enabling the resumption of beef tallow exports to the U.S. market.
The animal rendering sector was among those that felt the impact of the tariffs most intensely, given the relevance of the U.S. market for beef tallow exports and the product’s role as an energy input. The suspension of exports generated direct effects on industrial planning, contracts, and international competitiveness.
