Among the leading names in animal rendering worldwide, Brazilian Renderers – a partnership between the Brazilian Renderers Association (ABRA) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) – took part in the 23rd EFPRA Congress, held from June 5 to 7 in Riga, Latvia. The event brought together industry representatives from several countries, providing a platform for technical and institutional dialogue on strategic topics for the sector.

A highlight of the program was the participation of Dr. Francisco Reviriego Gordejo from DG SANTE – European Commission, who addressed regulatory frameworks for animal by-products (ABPs) and transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). The congress also discussed the role of ABPs in the fashion and leather industries, with the presence of Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, Secretary General of COTANCE.

The event also explored international markets for tallow and fats, through an analysis presented by Lars Dalsgaard (SARVAL), and bioenergy generation from ABPs, in a panel led by Robert Kovacs (EcoTyre). Another relevant topic was the South African market overview, presented by Renier Smit from SAPIA.

The congress agenda included technical presentations and discussions on sustainability, sanitary safety, innovation, and the circular economy. The opening session featured Arnaud Bouxin from FEFAC (European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation), who discussed the role of processed animal proteins in monogastric nutrition. He was followed by Professor Luciano Pinotti from the University of Milan, who spoke about the opportunities and challenges of circular feed platforms.
