ABRA was part of the Brazilian government delegation in Hanoi from March 28 to 29 during the Vietnam Mission. The initiative was part of joint efforts to expand trade relations between the two countries, with a focus on strategic sectors of Brazilian agribusiness.
During the mission, ABRA participated in negotiations for the long-awaited opening of the Vietnamese market to Brazilian bovine meat and bone meal — a historic demand from the sector. Despite strong efforts by the Brazilian Embassy in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the SCRI and SDA teams, Vietnamese authorities informed that they still require additional technical information on Brazil’s National Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) Program. Although the market has not yet been opened, the interest shown and the progress in bilateral dialogue signal a promising path for future achievements.
ABRA’s presence in Vietnam is not new — it is part of a consistent path of engagement with the local market. Through the Brazilian Renderers project — a partnership between ABRA and ApexBrasil — the association has participated in several activities in the country, promoting Brazil’s animal rendering industry at international trade fairs, business matchmaking events, and strategic gatherings such as ILDEX Vietnam. These previous actions helped position Brazil as one of the main suppliers of poultry meals to Vietnam and laid a solid foundation for current negotiations to open the market for ruminant meals.
The association also took part in the Brazil–Vietnam Business Forum, serving as moderator for the panel “Integration of the Agriculture Sectors of Brazil and Vietnam,” which brought together representatives from the beef, fiber, and animal rendering sectors. The panel featured leaders from ABIEC, Friboi/JBS, Cotton Finder Association, and Saigon Co.op.
In his speech at the event, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, emphasized the importance of using animal-based meals in the feeding of protein-producing animals in Vietnam, reinforcing Brazil’s role as a reliable and competitive supplier of these inputs.
In 2024, Brazil and Vietnam celebrated 35 years of diplomatic relations. The relationship was elevated to the status of Strategic Partnership on November 17 of the same year, during a meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chính, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Through participation in fairs, workshops and other special actions of commercial promotion, the projects value attributes of the animal rendering industry and its products – such as quality, health status and sustainability of production – and value the international brands of products, fostering new business for Brazilian exporters.
