Brazil and Peru have concluded a sanitary agreement that will allow the export of Brazilian poultry oil intended for animal feed. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) in a press release issued on April 17.
The news was welcomed by the Brazilian Renderers Association (ABRA) and Brazilian Renderers — a partnership between ABRA and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), which promotes the sector’s products internationally.
Peru has been a priority market for the Brazilian Renderers project, which has been conducting strategic actions in the country since 2021. With a population of 34 million and a constantly growing livestock sector, the country has a rising demand for animal nutrition inputs. In 2024 alone, Brazil exported over USD 755 million in agricultural products to Peru, with highlights including forestry products, chicken meat, cereals, soybean oil, and coffee.
Strategic actions for market access
This achievement is a direct result of coordinated efforts between ABRA, Brazilian Renderers, and Brazilian government agencies, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), with key support from the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of MAPA, Agricultural Attaché at the Brazilian Embassy in Lima, Angela Peres, and the Trade Promotion Sector of the Brazilian Embassy in Peru.
One of the milestones in this journey was the Business Connection Peru, held in October 2021. The event gathered over 60 participants, including potential buyers and representatives from the Brazilian Embassy in Peru, the Lima Chamber of Commerce, and 34 local industries. The meeting introduced the Peruvian market to the quality, safety, and competitive potential of Brazilian animal rendering.
Another decisive step was the Peruvian Mission to Brazil, carried out between November 21 and 26, 2022. After delays caused by the pandemic, Peruvian government auditors visited Brazilian facilities, accompanied by representatives from ABRA and the Brazilian government. The mission demonstrated the strength of the Brazilian production chain and reinforced the confidence of Peruvian authorities.
Commitment to international expansion
With the new sanitary agreement for poultry oil, Brazilian Renderers reaffirms its commitment to continuing the promotion of Brazilian products and opening new markets for the sector. This authorization is another step in consolidating Brazil as a global reference in animal rendering.
Brazilian Renderers
Since 2012, ABRA and ApexBrasil have promoted the Brazilian Renderers project with the objective of promoting exports from the Animal Rendering sector – meal, fat, blood products and palatabiliy ehancers, and hydrolyzed protein of animal origin. Through participation in fairs, workshops and other special actions of commercial promotion, the projects value attributes of the animal rendering industry and its products – such as quality, health status and sustainability of production – and value the international brands of products, fostering new business for Brazilian exporters.
