On April 14, Brazil and China signed a new trade agreement. With the green light from China, 63 animal rendering industries in the country have now received authorization to export non-edible processed poultry and pork protein for use in animal feed to the Asian country.

In addition to the fundamental role of the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the achievement is also a direct result of the articulation carried out by the Brazilian Renderers Association (ABRA), an entity that represents the animal recycling industries in Brazil, through the Brazilian Renderers project, a partnership between the Association and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).

For nearly a decade, the Brazilian Renderers project has worked closely with industries, the Brazilian government and Chinese authorities, articulating this openness and demonstrating Brazil’s commitment to meeting China’s sanitary requirements.

With a GDP of USD 5.16 billion and exports of USD 183.2 million to more than 50 countries, generating 54 thousand direct jobs, the animal rendering industry in Brazil is one of the world leaders in this sector and produces, for year, 5.5 million tons of meal and fat of animal origin. These products are used as ingredients for the production of feed for poultry, pigs, fish and pet food, in addition to the hygiene and cleaning industries, cosmetics and even biodiesel.

Brazilian Renderers

Since 2012, ABRA and ApexBrasil have promoted the Brazilian Renderers project with the objective of promoting exports from the Animal Rendering sector – meal, fat, blood products and palatabiliy ehancers, and hydrolyzed protein of animal origin. Through participation in fairs, workshops and other special actions of commercial promotion, the projects value attributes of the animal rendering industry and its products – such as quality, health status and sustainability of production – and value the international brands of products, fostering new business for Brazilian exporters.
